Engine Mounts
Tuff Mounts suit LS1 in HQ-WB, LH-LX, LC-LJ Torana's
The CAE engine mounts raise the engine too
high.
The CRS engine mounts position the engine well
but use a rubber mount that does not have an interlock should the rubber break.
For this reason I chose not to use the CRS engine mounts.
I made my own engine mounts based on the Tuff
Mounts to suit a 308 in a Torana as at the time Tuff Mounts did not make a LS1
mount. I believe that the LS1 Tuff mounts have the same dimensions as my engine
mounts.
Headers
You should treat the engine mounts, oil pan,
starter motor and headers as a matched set. Changing any one of these components
could cause the rest not to fit.
My headers were custom made by Norm Butler. I
am not aware of any off the shelf headers that will work with my setup.
The CAE LS1 into Torana headers will only fit
if you use CAE engine mounts and CAE starter. In my opinion the CAE engine
mounts raise the engine too high which causes transmission tunnel clearance
problems and driveline angle problems.
I have not tried the CRS LS1 into Torana
headers. I believe that the CRS LS1 into Torana mounts have the same dimensions
as the Tuff Mounts so they may fit.
Starter Motor
I modified a
CSR 100U Chev starter motor to fit the LS. This involved removing the alloy
mount plate from the front of the CSR 100U starter motor and machining a new
alloy plate to suit the LS.
MSD
121-5096 is too bulky
Summit
SUM-820320 is too bulky
Powermax
PWM-9109 is similar to my starter motor.
Cooling
Thermostat housing
Aeroflow
AF64-2092s. The factory thermostat housing points at the chassis rail. The
Aeroflow housing can be rotated 360°.
